PRESS RELEASE
The £670,000 sale of Dylan Thomas’ local, Brown’s Hotel to Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey fuels interest in Under Milk Wood.
A.C.T. Productions ‘spellbinding’ version of the classic was inspired by a visit to Dylan’s local. Director Keith Plant (born on the morning that Dylan died – ‘is he Dylan Thomas re-incarnated?’ audiences asked, ‘how else could he understand exactly how Thomas would have wanted it staged?’) was inspired by a visit to the famous boozer.
‘I thought you could stage Under Milk Wood in here’ says Keith and the germ of a hugely successful production was sown. It has played to sell-out audiences and rave reviews in the Midlands. It now comes to the Fringe 2004 at the atmospheric L’Attache nightclub (under the Rutland Hotel) from Monday 23rd to Saturday 28th August at 1.30pm daily, thanks to generous sponsorship by Diamond Electronics Ltd of Cheshire.
Established theatre-goers (some admitted to seeing over 20 different productions of Under Milk Wood) repeatedly said that this is the definitive production of a play that was never written to be staged. ‘Imagination, a multi- talented cast and real empathy with what Dylan would have wanted’, said Thomas fan and critic Professor Chris Phillipson.
L’Attache is one of the sleeping giants of Fringe venues not used for four years but with a great location and perfect for this production which is humorous, touching and poetic.
