PRESS RELEASE
Edinburgh Festival welcomes Midlands hit!
Dylan Thomas’ classic drama comes to the Fringe!
Leading Midlands company A.C.T. Productions is bringing its record-breaking production of Under Milk Wood to the Fringe this year. This innovative and entertaining version which breathes new life into a great classic played to sell out audiences in Stoke on Trent last year. Conceived as a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Thomas’ death, the show quickly established itself as a major hit, acclaimed by press and public alike.
Director Keith Plant explains: ‘I was on holiday in Dylan’s home town of Laugharne a few years ago and popped into Brown’s Hotel, his infamous local. Sitting in the bay window looking across at a photograph of Dylan in the same seat and sweeping my eyes across the floor to the bar I thought ‘you could do Under Milk Wood in here….and the germ of the production was born.
‘ What has been amazing is the reception: It seems to have delighted audiences young and old, hardened theatre-goers and people who were brought along by enthusiasts, never having been inside a theatre before.’
ACT promises a wonderfully slick piece of ensemble theatre, packed with humour, poetry and movingly affirmative. The talented cast bring to life over sixty characters in a colourful kaleidoscope of small town life.
The production plays at an ideal venue, bang in the middle of Edinburgh at Purple Studio, L’Attache nightclub in Rutland Street from 23rd to 28th August inclusive, starting at 1.30 – the perfect afternoon entertainment!
