AUDITIONS FOR OUR 2012 SUMMER PRODUCTION

William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale

Parts for men and women of all ages, a young boy and four male dancers

Alsager Community Theatre is searching for new talent to take part in its production of one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays The Winter’s Tale, which takes place in July in the beautiful courtyard of Little Moreton Hall: a unique venue which has provided an inspiring and magical acting experience for generations of local actors.

Convinced of her infidelity, Leontes, King of Sicily, banishes his pregnant wife Hermione and decrees that her child be abandoned and left to die. Fifteen years later, Leontes is brought to a realisation of his own tyranny and injustice, and following a series of misunderstandings and surprise revelations the play leaves its dark themes behind and ends in a mood of joy and reconciliation, with dancing, singing and comedy.

There are plenty of strong parts for men and women of all ages and there is a part, Mamillius, for which we would need a boy aged or able to play around 9 or 10 years old.  In addition, four male dancers are needed for a dance drama interlude in the first act. Rehearsals begin in April and will generally be on Mondays and Wednesdays in Alsager Library. Performances take place from 12 to 14 July and from 19 to 21 July 2012.

Everyone is welcome to attend open auditions on Monday 5th and Wednesday 7th March at 7.45pm in the upper room of Alsager Library. For more information, please contact the play’s director, Brian Rawlins on 01782 619704 or production assistant Maree Thorpe on 01260 276165.
